Formatting toolbar buttons stack markers instead of toggling formatting off

how to reproduce:

open any channel and type hello world in the message box (no need to send)

select all the text

click B (bold) in the formatting toolbar, then I (italic), then B again

expected: clicking B on text that’s already bold removes the bold, leaving *hello world* (italic only). That’s how toolbar formatting buttons work in most editors.

actual: every click wraps the selection in more markers. After the steps above the input contains *****hello world*****. There’s no way to turn bold or italic off from the toolbar, so you have to delete the asterisks by hand.
